"Abigail Rethwisch’s fearsome vocal power and range served the character of the Controller well, and she seemed to summon the storm with her voice. Her character’s strange attachment to the Refugee—she wants him to gaze adoringly only at her—and her fierce jealousy when he mingles with the travelers brings a touch of menace to the proceedings, and her virtuosic “mad scene” in the second act is both technically glorious and frightening. "
In the 2023 - 2024 Season, Abigail returns to The Metropolitan Opera and makes a debut with the Princeton Symphony and Pensacola Opera.

ABIGAIL RETURNS TO THE DALLAS OPERA
Abigail will be returning to The Dallas Opera to sing the role of Controller in Jonathan Dove's Flight. She just closed a successful run of the same production with Utah Opera, and is excited to join many wonderful colleagues at the Winspear Opera House!
ABIGAIL JOINS THE ROSTER OF THE MET
Abigail will join the roster of The Metropolitan Opera in the Spring of 2022 to cover the role of Meretaten in Philip Glass' Akhnaten, in Phelim McDermott's iconic production.
“Most of the roles, though indelible, aren’t showy. Opera star Anna Sørensen, played to near perfection by soprano Abigail Rethwisch, is an exception: She glitters gloriously in the opera-within-the-opera, delivers a warm and heartfelt plea for peace at the battle front, and mines the profound emotions of a woman longing for a normal life.”
